Practical support for difficult emotions and relationships
Individual online DBT-informed therapy with Stu Wharton, a Registered Mental Health Nurse and Society for DBT accredited therapist.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) builds on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), exploring how thoughts, feelings and behaviours connect. It combines acceptance and change. Helping you understand and accept your experiences while developing practical skills to respond differently.
Together, we can work on mindfulness, managing overwhelming emotions, coping with distress and improving communication and relationships.
If emotions feel overwhelming, relationships are difficult, or you find yourself repeating patterns you want to change, we can work together to understand what is happening and find practical ways forward.
Does this sound familiar?
You do not have to have it all worked out.
You may find that emotions build quickly, that you react in the moment and regret it later, or that asking for what you need feels difficult. Sometimes, even when things are going well, it can be hard to relax and trust that it is okay to feel okay.
We can start with what is happening for you now and identify the changes that matter most to you. My approach is practical, compassionate and collaborative, with room for honesty, humour and being human.

Skills for everyday life
DBT developed from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which explores how thoughts, feelings and behaviours influence one another. It combines practical strategies for change with mindfulness and acceptance.
Mindfulness — notice your thoughts, feelings and reactions, so you can pause and choose how to respond.
Emotion regulation — understand your emotions and develop ways to manage their intensity.
Distress tolerance — get through painful moments without making things worse.
Interpersonal effectiveness — communicate your needs, set boundaries and maintain your self-respect.
Sessions are tailored to your needs, with skills to practise between appointments. This is DBT-informed individual work rather than a comprehensive DBT programme.
